OPULANCE, LOCAL TRENDS AND GLOBAL TRENDS AT DECOREX 2017 (JHB)

Nature inspired, textures, colours, cosy comforts, trendy designs, food to die for and accessories to make your head spin….. This is Decorex 2017.

Taking away from the Johannesburg installation of this leading décor and design showcase running at  Gallaghar Estate from  9 – 14 August 2017, we know one thing for sure: South Africa is overflowing with both raw and established talent in the design & décor industry; with a unique and fresh approach to lifestyle solutions incorporating global trends in a uniquely South African design language.

A particularly creative take on South African traditionalism is DEKAT’s feature designer K INTERIORS who’s Pierneef inspired exhibition stands out for its unique use of rich colours, textures and art from this treasure in the South African art landscape. Principal Designer, Karen Richards, manages to pay homage to this incredible (but in some eras forgotten) artist, making his work relevant 60 years after his death with a traditional yet eclectic take on the colonial décor style. We see custom-made design furniture, exuding opulence and quality but at the same time remain inviting and cosy. Situated across the doyenne of the Decorex landscape, Stephen Falcke, this exhibition is a must-see at this year’s show.

What is evident from the highlights of the show – the 100% Design Showcase and Decorex Trend House installations in particular – is that South African designers and exhibitors are ready to help home owners make their space a living dream.  We are seeing a wealth of textures, colours, unique hand-crafted designs (incorporating nature elements) and a whole lot of outdoor living solutions. And why would it not be the case – in a vibrant country such as ours, boasting some of the best outdoor weather in the world!

But it is not only about design and décor – the Gourmet Cooking Theatre is a must-visit spot with some of the most creative food and beverage personalities in action including the Delish Sisters, Clair Allen and the seemingly hottest cuisine property at the moment  - Chef NTI who has achieved international acclaim for her food blog and show PS I cooked this! Personal favourites from the show includes the Greenside Design Centre’s virtual showroom and 3D printing solutions, Interior Brand Acrhitecture’s AfroTel (proudly bringing local design flair and solutions into the hospitality industry) and for the foodie in you the surprising gourmet popcorn flavours from Maverick & Jane Gourmet Popcorn (today’s highlight being the birthday cake flavour!).
