Frequently asked questions

Q. Can you work with existing Furniture?

Absolutely. I will survey your furniture and incorporate it into the new design scheme as far as possible. I don’t believe in changing things just for the sake of changing. Should it not suit the new design other options will be proposed and discussed, to enable you to make an informed decision.

Q. Is it more expensive to use an interior decorator as opposed to Do-It-Yourself?

I believe in quality fabrics and manufacturing. I also believe that you get what you pay for. In most scenarios I am able to work with a client’s budget or help them to set up a realistic budget for their vision. I also find that clients go out and buy the wrong things that prohibit me of saving them money in the long run.

Q. How long will our project take?

This will vary per project. A typical kitchen remodelling may take approximately 3 months to design and build. A living room remodelling may take a month to design, and 2 months to receive and install all product and furniture. If you are remodelling your bathroom, the process may take only a month from start to finish. A custom home design from start to finish may take 3 months to layout, and plan the details. Curtaining and other window dressing takes 4 to 6 weeks depending on the fabric.

Q. Do we need to use your contractor or architect?

No. K Interiors will work with your builder or trades people. We are more than happy to refer you to reliable people if you require. You will not pay us for construction related labour. That is between you and your contractor.

Q. Where do you get your furniture?

I prefer to custom make most of my furniture pieces and I work with well-established and renowned workshops. This is not necessarily more expensive than retail and it allows for one-of-a-kind pieces! I have trade accounts with all the retailers in the industry and might even consider importing items depending on the vision. Some of our local retailers stock truly novel items and my relationships with allows me to pass discounts over to you.

Q. What Areas do you work in?

I work mainly in Gauteng. For areas outside of Gauteng you will be responsible for an industry related travelling cost. However, you will not receive a surprise invoice! This service is planned in consultation with the client to enable a fixed budget for travelling. This option has allowed me exposure far into other parts of Africa and I’ve recently been appointed for a project in Europe.

Q. how will i know what i get? in the shop i can at least see what items looks like.

I provide you with a full presentation with images and concepts on the design. I will furthermore give you a space plan and samples on fabrics, paint colours, flooring, wall coverings etc. You will be able to visualise the design in the finest detail before we continue.

Q. Can you get involved with my home/office from building / refurbishment phase?

Yes! It is ideal to get involved at the building phase as opposed to only when the building is completed. It is important that the finishes in the building complement the interior design of the space. An important part of my service offering is to assist in the choosing of all finishes and fitments and then incorporate the interior design based on that.
